Middle school is the start of an epic journey.  If parents learn just a little bit about what this journey is all about, they can see the possibilities in front of them and learn how to peek 'under the hood' to uncover needs, empathize with behaviors, seize opportunities, and partner with teachers to become the genius companion their tween needs on the wild ride between childhood and adulthood.

Let Parents Become Tweens - For Fun.

(And, for just a few minutes).

As kids enter middle school, parents are often unprepared for the sudden and rapid changes their child experiences.  And, they've stuffed their own memories of middle school so far back in the corners of their memories that they can't access them easily. Recalling their own middle school experiences improves empathy and understanding, and it can help parents and kids maintain a strong connection as a middle schooler is pushing for independence or when their world feels like quicksand under their feet.

Introducing '10 - 25' - a storytelling game parents play in small groups.

Developed by the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent and FrameWorks Institute, From 10 to 25 is a collaborative storytelling card game that helps parents understand what students need to go on this journey we call adolescence (diverse experiences, supportive relationships, and accessible resources).

 How is it played?
Groups of 3 - 5 players

How long does the facilitated game take?
30 - 60 minutes (depending on the allocated discussion time)

"Middle schoolers are the ultimate underdogs in our world. They get so little help for the wild transformation of adolescence that they experience. They are given low expectations, told they are hormonal, and often placed in learning experiences that are out of sync with their developmental needs.  But when you begin to change any of these variables, you start to see them as they truly are:
engaged, curious, strange, questioning, evolving at an almost unbelievable pace.
Trustworthy, respect-worthy, eager to show what they can do, ready to hold responsibility.
They are on an epic adventure, one of the truly great ones in our lives".
